WHAT IS A GOOD SUPPLIER?

How distributors pick and choose suppliers they can trust with their client’s valued orders.

Some criteria for choosing a good supplier follows.

Turn Ons

•  Fast quotes  •  "Distributor Friendly" catalog and sales sheets  •  Quality imprint on quality product  •  Rush Service if needed  •  Calling back upon receipt of order if there is any problem on the purchase order, such as incorrect pricing, faulty artwork, lack of inventory, impossibility of meeting deadline due date  •  Confidential website that could be linked to the distributor's website  •  Knowledgable & helpful Customer Service Department  •  Shipping order on date promised via requested carrier  •  Faxing invoices within one day of shipment  •  Automatic tracking numbers via fax •  Self promotion samples - preferably  rebateable...the list goes on.

Turn Offs

• Terminal voice mail  •  Ordering samples/literature that never arrives  •  Calling for information and not getting it within an immediate time frame  •  Unfriendly and rude sales support personnel •  Unknowledgeable reps  •  Lack of follow through on any request •  Not enough inventory  •  Separate price sheet • Net prices or low codes in catalogs •  Website/e-mail addresses on catalogs  •  Retail type catalog  and unfortunately, this list goes on and on.

"I always considered myself a loyal client to my valued suppliers.  The only time I changed suppliers was because their service, product or attitude changed.  Don’t let this happen to you!  Do you have a system to monitor your sales flow from your current distributors? How can you keep your present distributors from going to your competitor?"  Barb.
